Following his completion at St. Vladimir's Seminary and a mission trip to Guatemala, Fr. Simon Menya, developed the Northern Uganda Self-Sufficiency Project (NUSSP). It was during his time at the Seminary and in Guatemala that he was introduced to a self-sufficiency model for small agriculture and livestock businesses that would support the community, church, and clergy that were involved. The NUSSP model allows local people to support their families and their church.
NUSSP, situated in Acholinyek Village, Omoro District is a registered Community-Based Organization (CBO) founded in March 2019. The Organization serves vulnerable communities in northern Uganda that experienced over 20 years of war.
NUSSP started with 40 acres and has ongoing projects for education, translation, agriculture, pig farming, beekeeping, tractor services, clean water, sanitation, and small business support.
The Health Center and St. Catherine Church were later built and are open to the community.
A new 30 acres of land will provide more opportunities for self-sufficiency.
